Welcome to Captain Power Online!

Welcome to Captain Power Online, the site dedicated to the 80's show that pitted good against evil!

Set in the year 2147, Captain Jonathan Power and his team battle Lord Dread, a maniacal foe bent on making a perfect machine world where the weakness of human beings is obliterated.  Power's team is there to thwart him every chance they get and to make sure that humanity survives against everything Dread throws at them.

So, how come you don't remember this show, you may be wondering? Well, it was a one-season wonder - cut short too soon after being marketed to kids with a toy line.  The major attraction of the show was that viewers could buy toys that were interactive with what was happening to the characters.  In short, you could shoot at the bad guys, and the bad guys could shoot at you!  If you got hit too many times, the action figure in your weapon would eject, and you would be declared KIA.  While a really brilliant idea by today's standards, it was too much too soon marketed at too young a crowd.

Still, the fascination of the show remains for those who remember its crew of characters.  It was easy to see why.  The show was before its time and had really intricate characters.  It was also using cutting edge CGI (at least for that time).  What was not to love about the apocalyptic feel of it all?

Parents didn't like it, that was for sure. The sometimes very violent content (again, by 80's standards) was aimed at the young viewer age set during Saturday morning cartoon time to get them to buy toys associated with the show.  This backfired once parental advocate groups got wind of the production content and mounted a campaign to have the show boycotted.  In short, it was made for the wrong time slot for the wrong audience with incorrect marketing.

But for those of us who were old enough to understand the concepts, this was a great show!  It was such a letdown to see it go off the air, especially when it was just about to start its second season production run.  The good news is that the characters live on in fanfiction and art.  Recently, the show celebrated its 20th anniversary, remembered fondly for the most part by its staff and crew.  Despite the ill timing of Captain Power, it remains a fond part of the viewing memories for many people who saw role models in the characters.  Most of all, it reinforced a very important idea - that the good guys will fight for what is right.

Rebuilding the Future

Well, the best-laid plans of attack can go awry.  The conversion to a new version of Joomla pretty much doomed the previous site.  So, I figured it's better to just start rebuilding it and make it better than it was!

If you are new to the site, please stop in and say hello.  If you were a registered user on the previous site, please take the time to reregister in order to access all the fun stuff that was there before Armageddon slapped the old stuff!
